A BIT OF BACKGROUND

Our Story

The National Actors Guild of Cameroon (NAGCAM) was established in accordance with various laws and regulations governing syndicates, labor, cinema activities, and cultural organizations in Cameroon. The preamble of its constitution references several legal instruments, including the constitution of the Republic of Cameroon, laws relating to syndicates, labor codes, regulations specific to the cinema industry and its bylaws.

Our Mission

The mission of NAGCAM is to foster solidarity among actors and actresses to address various social and economic challenges they face. This includes promoting moral rectitude and professionalism through performances, production supervision, training workshops, seminars, and sensitization campaigns, guided by labor codes and copyright laws.

Legal Status

The National actors’ guild of Cameroon (NAGCAM) is a syndicate (Trade Union) made up of actors of Cameroon extraction. It is an autonomous guild affiliated to the Cameroon Film industry (CFI). NAGCAM is legally registered under the dispositions of Article 6 of Law No 92/007 of the 14th of August 1992 to institute the Labour Code; with registration certificate No.SN/1/47 OF THE 26TH OF April 2006.

Why Us?

The primary objectives of NAGCAM are to unite Cameroonian actors and actresses, promote their professionalism, protect them from exploitation within the film industry, and enhance the quality of Cameroonian films both technically and morally. The guild operates under the principles of solidarity, aiming to combat poverty, unemployment, mediocrity, moral decay, and exploitation within different sectors in the film industries.

The objectives of NAGCAM are multifaceted and include protecting the artistic rights of its members through collective bargaining, mediating between actors and producers, negotiating contracts, organizing training workshops and festivals, running a film academy, ensuring compliance with audio-visual and copyright laws, promoting Cameroonian culture internationally, grading members and issuing awards, collaborating with other guilds, participating in movie censorship, providing extras to independent producers, and supporting members’ general welfare through educational, recreational, social, and charitable initiatives.

Overall, NAGCAM serves as a vital organization in Cameroon’s film industry, working to empower and protect its members while contributing to the development and promotion of Cameroonian cinema domestically and internationally.
